It’s a daunting task buying a Corvette from the States when you live on the other side of the world.  Luckily, I found John at GM Down Under early in my search on the Corvette Forum, as he had high recommendations from a number of members as a straight guy.  He steered me away from a few potential early mistakes, and I decided to put my name down with him and wait until the right car came up. Soon a ’58 matching my requirements for year, colour and style (driver) came up and he let me know.  Against all advice I bought the car sight unseen while traveling in Europe, but I had confidence in John’s honest assessment of the car, good photos and straight answers to my myriad of questions.  I paid a bit more to get the undercarriage restored, which ended up saving me a lot of time and money at this end in quarantine clearance.  He helped me with arranging shipping and delivered the car the car to them as part of his service.  He even put a new battery in it when the old one failed just before delivery. Finally it arrived after two months and I was not disappointed.  We put some fuel in it at the depot and drove it home ourselves without a hitch. John didn’t just sell me a car - he helped me fulfill a 20-year dream of owning a C1, and I am very grateful. Dave, Perth, Australia

John- I have been enjoying the heck out of my 61 Corvette that you sold me – I put a couple of hundred miles on it in the first couple of days! It was a real pleasure dealing with you, especially considering that I had to complete the sale by long distance.  Your experience with this kind of transaction was evident and made everything go very smoothly. Thanks again for all of your help – I couldn’t be happier!! Mark,   Texas
John, My car finally arrived yesterday.  I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your accurate assessment of the car and willingness to “work” for me and tell me exactly what to expect.  I really never expected to buy a car sight unseen, from a dealer, all the way across country and yet that is exactly what I did.  I doubt I would have done this if it hadn’t been a Fuel Injected 65.  I figured it was priced right and rare enough I couldn’t go wrong.  Anyway, your honesty and integrity was great and notable because it certainly would have been easy to profit from this deal for yourself.  I hope I get to meet you someday.  Alan S.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN I have always loved C4 Corvettes, especially the later ones. I bought a 1989 model coupe in 1999 when I lived in the USA and just loved it. For the past year or so I have been trying to find one in Australia that suited me, to no avail. It seems that there is never enough leg room for the driver after they have been converted to RHD. Almost in desperation, in late 2016 I contacted Dave Harber at GM Downunder to see if he thought he could modify a RHD C4 to provide more legroom for a tall bloke like me. When he told me he knew very little about C4s I was somewhat surprised. His core business is C3s and earlier models. However, he invited me to come over to his shop at Bribie Island to have a chat about my problem, which I did. And I am very glad that I did. After talking for a while we both came to the conclusion that the best thing I could do (apart from buying one of the C2s or C3s he had for sale) was to import my own C4 from the USA, with his help and the help of his colleague John in Los Angeles. The age of the car then became important because we wanted to keep it LHD and not do any conversion. We began to search. Dave spoke to me frequently during this process and he was always warning me to be careful about what was available on the internet and, under no circumstances, should I buy a car sight unseen. He was so emphatic about being careful with whom you deal, based on his many years of experience importing cars from the USA. Surprisingly, we identified a suitable car fairly quickly, and, fortunately, it was in Los Angeles, not far from John’s shop. I was able to convince the seller, via email, to get in touch with John and bring the car in for inspection. It met with John’s approval and we bought the car. That was the easy part. Getting the car shipped to Australia was the hard part. That’s where Dave’s expertise came to the fore. He organised everything,  there was nothing I had to do. Shipping, customs, quarantine, roadworthy, compliance, all done. And through it all he would be on the phone keeping me up to date with where things were at and if the end was in sight. Numerous unforeseen problems can arise during a project such as this but Dave was always a calming and positive influence. He kept telling me to be patient, it would all turn out OK, and it did. The final step was getting the car registered, which Dave’s wife Krysy attended to with calm assurance.I am terribly grateful to Dave and Krysy (and to John in LA) for what they have done to help me become the proud owner of my dream car. Thanks and best wishes to you both. Mike. 1987 Corvette convertible, Brisbane Australia.
to all who want to know about my experience with John finding good quality corvettes was not easy for someone like me knowing not much about the value driving criteria and doing all the search out of Germany. Before I found John´s website I went through some frustrating experiences. Thats why I was sceptic at first but the longer we exchanged mails my confidence in John grew steady. One of his ice breaking statements was "I want you to be happy" and today after having bought a perfect top flight scoring 57 corvette I only can say "he really made me happy"! It was absolutely pleasure to do business with with John.  He is a very honest guy. Never ever any of his statements was wrong. To finalize the deal I flew to LA for a few days and when I first saw the car I immediately fell in love with it. John offered it as an outstanding quality car and it was all true. Not knowing really much about this corvettes I had an expert joining me and he confirmed everything John had promised. I only can recommend to do business with him especially if you do it from abroad and have to rely on his statements. You won´t be disappointed. Thanks a lot John!"Lothar Ravensburg, Germany
Hello John remember me  I bought the red/ red 1959 Corvette from you. Well finally the car has arrived in England and I have seen it and driven it. It is a wonderful example and I would like to thank you enormously for the help and attention you have given me in my plight.I arrived at the docks this morning and there amongst the containers and cranes and trucks was this brilliant vehicle, needless to say the battery was flat but the recovery guy I found managed to jump start it and soon it was warmed up and sounding very mean. I drove it around a bit and then into the covered wagon and then off to the storage place which is close to where I live. I made sure lots of people were there and it received tons of admiration, it sat there amongst Ferraris Bentleys Porches and other cars worth ten times more but non looked so good - but then I am bias. Thank you once more and the folder packed full of receipts and the photo disc are fascinating. What an amazing job was done converting such a project car into this magnificent vehicle. I hope you’re well and business is profitable Best regards Antony, England
Hi John I am very happy with the 1959 Corvette purchase and I have no hesitation  in recommending you in the future I hope we have the opportunity to make another purchase from you again. Bill, Melbourne, Australia
"As a foreigner it is not easy to buy a quality mid-year Corvette in the US. There are too many "good offers" around. Once I got in contact with GM Down Under I got a sense that I was dealing with honest people. The 65 maroon 327/365 coupe I bought is a honest car, beautiful in all respects, but still a car that we can enjoy. We look forward to the day it arrives safely in Oslo, Norway!"
John, I received the 60 corvette last week. I'm very happy by the state of this car! My customer also is very happy. Thank you for this good transaction and good car, I'll recommend your company to all my customers in France! Alex    1960 Corvette
Hi John, just wanted you to know everything went fine with the car, I have it safe and sound here at home and have been driving it around almost every day! I love it (except for the “Armstrong” steering). The car is awesome and much better than expected. Thanks again, I’ll be in touch next Spring, I might want to buy a 65-67 Vette. If you ever come across a nice one that is black w/red interior and a 4 speed let me know! I would have no problem buying another car from you. Cheers Ken, British Columbia, Canada.
Hello there mate!! I apologize that so much time has passed since I touched base! I have been incredibly busy with my work, my kids and of course cruising in my fabulous corvette!! I am still thrilled to pieces and have to pinch myself when I see it in the driveway! I have a great mechanic who gets a kick out of the car and is honest and helpful...invaluable!! On that note, thank you for your contribution to getting the car running right. He told me he spoke to you and you ponied up which helped my bill so THANK YOU JOHN!!  I have to figure out a few things along the way but it is an old car after all.  We have found a great supplier of parts in Calgary so that helps.  And of course I have you!!  Anyhow thanks again so much for all the help, I hope to talk to you again soon!! Gayle, Canada. 1965 Corvette convertible
Hi JohnI am sorry about the time getting back to you, the car  arrived at corvette clinic on the 15 April, it looks great I am really happy with it.Thank you for letting me know about the hardtop, it was a very good colour match can hardly notice the difference in the two red shades.  Thank you also for placing a cloth between body and hardtop for traveling, it arrived without any scratches or marks. The car sounds fantastic with the 427 engine.  It has been a pleasure dealing with you, you made the buying of the car a trouble free enjoyable time.Have a great day. Cheers...Ron G.
The car is great and much better than I expected. Fun car. I love it. Thanks for the great service and your honesty. I will recommend you to all. Thanks again Harry. 56 Vette, North Carolina
“Buying a car on the other side of the world”John from Gmdownunder cars has been a great asset to have when either buying a car from his great range of no B/S cars or when needing a car inspected.John went out of his way to help me buy a very nice 57 Corvette, he did the inspection, Dealt with the seller , organized the delivery to his shop, organized repairs, sourced parts and then delivered the car to the dock.I am very grateful for all of Johns advise and unbelievable service.I wish we had that sort of service in Australia. THANK YOU SO MUCH I owe you a beer Cheers John Webb Australia
John I just wanted to say how much I appreciated working with you on the purchase of my ’65 vette. On dealings with you and your mechanic Rusty, you were both honest and a pleasure to deal with. I originally called about another vette. In talking to the both of you, you were accurate in explaining the car. (some other dealers weren’t so accurate in their claims). You picked me up at the airport and later delivered me to the hotel. Even after you knew I wasn’t going to get that car, you took at least an hour to explain items I should look for when looking for a corvette. Also, I’d like to say everyone else I had dealings with said you were honest and forthcoming. John knew the mechanic who had serviced the ‘65 for the last several years and gave me his name and number, so I could be at ease with the mechanics of the car. John also arranged shipping, and when putting the hard top on, even put on protection tape to preserve the paint from marring. He didn’t have to do that, but shows the extra detail that shows he’s not just in it for the money. P.S. I Love my car!!!! Jim, Longview WA.
Dear John, I could not be happier with my 69 Corvette big block. It was not easy to pull the trigger on a car 3000 miles away and buy sight on seen. But based on the testimonials, your years of being in business and the knowledge you have, it gave me the confidence to pull the trigger. I am glad I did because the car is exactly as you described it and if I passed this up I don think I would have found one as nice as rare and at such a good price. Thanks for making the process so easy and following through so diligently on every detail. I will highly recommend you to all my friend’s looking for rare cars and for sure I will be checking your site from time to time to see what classics you have. Thank you again Jeff L.
Dear John, finally my Corvette arrived this week. Unfortunately I haven’t licensed the C2 yet. Nevertheless it was a great pleasure for me to do business with you. If I should ever search for another one, which I might, your place would be the first to look for one. You made it possible for me to look at the car and have it inspected although everything was on a tight schedule. The car was as you described it and it fits perfect my needs. And thank you once again for your help after I bought the car. John fulfilled all my requests and he even didn´t charge me. An experience you wouldn’t expect of a car dealer. Best regards Peter, Germany, 1965 Corvette Convertible
John I have been a buyer of vintage cars for years and have purchased from private sellers, auctions and dealers, which had not always been good experience.  I must say this changed when I bought my 1963 Split Window corvette from GM Downunder. My experience dealing with you was excellent. Your guidance, knowledge and professionalism was a rewarding experience . You led me thru a process that was truthful and educational for my purchase. The car is everything you said it was and more. Also your after purchase help was great. Again thank you for everything and look forward to my next car purchase from you. Regards, Elio
Hey mate how’s things, John I would like to say thanks very much for your honesty on the 63 the car truly is beautiful, I have been a mechanic at franchise dealers all my working life so I have got to learn just how much bull...t a car shark can spin to sell a vehicle, but mate you were exactly on the button with what you told me about this car, and I must admit that when you told me that it was worth more than what I paid for it I was a bit skeptical on that, but mate seeing it now in the flesh I have no doubt at all that this car is worth more than what I paid for it !!!!. So thanks so much mate because that car in the flesh is like Steve told me, way better when you see it !!, have a great wknd, Trev
