First-generation Mustangs are popular commodities today, but perhaps none more so than the virtually race-ready Shelby GT350 models of 1965. In that realm, provenance becomes key. Offered here is SFM5S199, one of the 562 fastbacks that were changed into Shelby GT350 versions that year. That this car has a matching-numbers driveline plus a well-noted published history in the Shelby American World Registry would be enough, but this special Shelby was first delivered through the legendary Tasca Ford dealership in Rhode Island as well. Included in this sale are the copies of the original delivery documents from Shelby American to Tasca Ford. Tasca in turn shipped the new car to a New York dealer who sold it to its first buyer. Of course, due to the SCCA rules for American cars, all ’65 GT350s were painted Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue stripes. Added during its conversion by Shelby were the scooped fiberglass hood, side exhaust, and competition-tuned suspension and brakes. This example also has the 15-inch Cragar/Shelby wheels, a $220.00 option at that time, and the standard Shelby dash layout with an auxiliary gauge pod and a Cobra steering wheel. Restored meticulously at only 21,000 miles, this beautiful car has been verified by the SAAC that the original Ford serial number and Shelby VIN is matching. The original 289/306 HP V-8 and aluminum case Borg Warner T-10 4-speed are still in this car. It is also equipped with the desirable trunk-mounted battery, a race-oriented placement seen in only the first 300 Shelby 350s built. Priced at $380,000
