1961 Corvette Convertible Retro Rod built by
Charlie Bacon from Running Springs, California. Charlie began restoring
automobiles in 1955 at the age of 12. In 1960 he purchased his first
Corvette, a 1959 model and has owned Corvettes ever since. He now
restores Corvettes as a hobby and has rebuilt numerous Corvettes over
the last 40 years.
ABOUT THE CAR-This is an original 1961 Corvette Convertible body VIN
10867S108298 that has been placed on an ART MORRISON chassis.
ENGINE-2008 Chevrolet LS3, 480HP crate motor. This is the same motor
Chevrolet used in the 2008 Corvette LS3. The only difference is this
motor has a larger factory GM cam. TRANSMISSION-Pontiac TRE MAC 6 speed
with 2 overdrive gears from a low mileage Pontiac GTO.
EXTERIOR-Repainted the original Tuxedo black by Dave Schwartz at Euro
Body in Reseda, California. Interior-Redone in the original Roman Red
with Al Knock custom leather seats. Lookalike 1961 Wonder Bar radio
with modern technology AM-FM and XM satellite capability. Car has all
new window glass & wiring, power windows and both hard and soft
tops. The hard top has been restored. The soft top is useable but
unrestored. WHEELS & TIRES-Boyd Coddington polished Salt Flat
wheels 17x8. Front tires are Ventus HR2 235/45R17 93H made by Hankook.
Rear tires are Ventus HR2 255/45R17 98H made by Hankook. EXHAUST-custom
black powder coat dual exhaust. FRONT AXLE-C5 Corvette upper &
lower control arms with 13” vacuum assist disc brakes. AGR power rack
& pinion steering. REAR AXLE-9” Ford housing with 350 posi
traction. Strange gear section & axles with Wilwood 12.2 vacuum
assist disc brakes.
Car
runs and drives better than a new Corvette. Classic vintage styling
with modern day dependability. Runs on today’s pump gas so no need for
additives.
