NCRS Second Flight award on 4/12/03
I took this car to be NCRS Flight judged on 4/12/03 at a local chapter meet at the Pomona NHRA Museum. Unfortunately for me it was the only 1968 to 1972 being judged. It was judged by 2 national team leaders for 68 to 72 corvettes. Patrick Collins, very critical as a team leader was certainly impressed with this vehicle. As it was the only 1972 there, the 6 inspecting judges didn't have much to do so they spent 5 hours on this car. All were very impressed, especially with the paper work mentioned above.
The chassis, body and interior scored very well and good enough to Top Flight as-is. Mechanical also scored very well with the following exceptions:
No smog equipment. This was a big hit. I have it all including the original hoses and clamps, but unfortunately I did not install them before judging.
The car has an after market fan blade with no clutch fan. This actually makes the car run cooler but it was another big hit.
It has a G.M. replacement carburetor.
The distributor did not have a date tag.
The spark plug wires were not braided.
If these items were fixed, I'm sure it would Top Flight!
On operations judging, it scored nicely other than a few deducts for the clock not working I also lost points for the factory alarm not working (because I did not have the key for it.) The cigarette lighter light and glove compartment light were not functioning. One door interior light switch was not functioning. Trivial I know, but they're all deductions.
This car is easily Top Flight material with a few minor fix-its. If I still have it on June 6, 2003, I will be rejudging the car and it will Top Flight. It will then be priced in the mid $30's. Take the opportunity now and purchase this certified car at our very reasonable price of SOLD!
